Battling the prolonged effects of inflation, major retailers such as Target and Walmart have already reduced grocery prices to attract customers, and Amazon has now joined the list in pursuit of the same goal.

The company said that around 4,000 products will be reduced in price by up to 30% for Amazon Fresh. The discounts, which will change weekly, will be available both in Amazon Fresh stores and on the grocer’s website. These reduced prices will apply to items from national brands as well as Amazon’s own store brands.

Worldwide vice president of Amazon Fresh, Claire Peters, said, “Increasing our weekly deals across thousands of items and expanding the reach of Prime Savings at Amazon Fresh is just one way that we’re continuing to invest in competitive pricing and savings for all of our customers — both in-store and online.”

Amazon added that Prime customers will also get a 10% reduction on hundreds of grocery items online.

According to the retail giant’s website, it has established a chain of 41 Fresh stores. However, the company has also closed some Fresh locations and stopped some stores from opening.

Inflation has driven food prices up in recent years. Although the rate of price rise has slowed down, it is only recently that there have been signs of groceries becoming more affordable.

Certain consumers have resorted to gardening or extreme couponing to cut back on food expenses.

Earlier this month, Walmart announced it would be cutting prices on almost 7,000 items in stores, and Target revealed its plans to reduce prices on around 5,000 items following its fourth consecutive quarter of same-store sales drop. Price cuts will extend to a variety of groceries and personal care products, ranging from frozen pizza to sunscreen.
