Coca-Cola is investing $330 million in a new campus in Birmingham, Alabama, with construction expected to take three years.
AL.com reported that the beverage company announced the development on May 23rd, following approval from the Jefferson County Commission and incentives received. The campus will be located on the former Stockham Valves property.
“This is a legacy building,” said Coca-Cola United CEO Mike Suco at the commission meeting. “Our company has a 122-year history. Hopefully, someone will be here 122 years from now sharing the great news of our continued success.”
The new facility will manufacture Coca-Cola products for Jefferson County and surrounding areas. It will include 150,000 square feet of office space and 300,000 square feet of warehouse space.
Recent financial reports from Coca-Cola showed an increase in global unit case volume by 1% in the first quarter, indicating continued demand. CEO James Quincey highlighted the tenacity of the American consumer market despite challenges faced by some low-income customers.
The company’s performance in the soft drink segment was enhanced by changes in formulas for beverages like Sprite and Fanta, contributing to a 2% volume increase.
