Pedigree’s dry dog food is being recalled due to the potential presence of loose metal in the product.
Mars Petcare U.S. has issued a voluntary recall for 315 bags of 44-pound Pedigree Adult Complete Nutrition Grilled Steak & Vegetable Flavor Dry Dog Food. The Food and Drug Administration reports that the company is removing this product from store shelves.
The FDA has identified a potential presence of loose metal pieces in the bag, and advises consumers to stop feeding the product to their dogs immediately. Mars Petcare also encourages pet owners to watch for any unusual behavior in their pets and to contact a veterinarian if their pet has consumed the recalled product.
The affected products’ Best-by Date is March 4, 2025, and the Lot Code is 410B2TXT02, which can be found on the bottom seal of the bag’s back.
This limited voluntary recall affects 315 bags of products sold by Walmart in Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas. Walmart has provided a list of stores where the dog food was sold on its website. Other pet retailers do not appear to have the affected product in stock.
No other Pedigree brand dog foods or Mars Petcare U.S. products are impacted by this recall. The company is working with Walmart stores in the specified states to ensure the affected products are removed from shelves and inventory.
Pedigree has provided customers with a phone number to contact Mars Petcare U.S. at 1-800-525-5273 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. CST Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. CST Saturday and Sunday, as well as a website, www.pedigree.com/update, for any questions. As of now, there have been no reports of pet injury or illness related to the potentially impacted product.
The brand refers to Pedigree food as the “number one brand of dog food and treats in the world, feeding more dogs than any other brand.” The company’s Pedigree Foundation has been working for the past 15 years to help shelter dogs find their forever homes.
