Burger King To Launch $5 Meal Ahead of McDonald’s Same-Price Combo

Burger King is set to launch a $5 meal ahead of the debut of McDonald’s same-price combo. The war between the fast-food giants is on.

“We are bringing back our $5 Your Way Meal as agreed upon with our franchisees back in April,” a spokesperson said to CBS News. The deal includes one of three sandwiches, along with nuggets, fries, and a drink.

Burger King said in a memo, as reported by Bloomberg, that it plans to run the offer for several months. Later this year, Burger King plans to test two other value meals that will debut accordingly.

In April of this year, Burger King announced via Restaurant Brands International that overall, income from its operations increased to $544 million from $447 million the prior year. It also reported that “solid growth in system-wide sales translates into bottom-line growth for franchisees and the company.”

Last week, McDonald’s confirmed that it will roll out a limited $5 combo meal this summer in hopes of enticing customers who have stayed away from fast-food restaurants after price increases hit their wallets. The promotion will only last four weeks, per Quartz, likely because the fast-food giant is leaning on its partnership with Coca-Cola to offset the cost of the promotion.

Additionally, Wendy’s announced a $3 breakfast meal deal earlier this week. The Ohio-based company said in a statement on Monday that it will offer the morning deal across its chains immediately. Wendy’s said that customers will be able to choose between a bacon, egg, and cheese English muffin or a sausage, egg, and cheese English muffin. The sandwiches will come with a small order of seasoned potatoes.

Wendy’s also has a very popular $5 meal for its customers called the “Biggie Bag.” That meal deal includes a sandwich, a four-piece chicken nugget, a jr. fry, and a small soft drink. The company also offers customers a “2 for $6” promotion, choosing between a Dave’s Single burger, 10-piece Chicken Nuggets, a Spicy Chicken Sandwich, and a Medium Strawberry Lemonade.
