Cycling app Strava is utilizing AI to introduce intelligent training and anti-cheating tools to its large user base of over 125 million users.
In a recent event at Camp Strava on May 16, Strava revealed some of its upcoming app enhancements, some of which will incorporate AI and machine learning technologies to advance the app further.
CEO Michael Martin stated, “Strava is making progress towards our vision of a connected world through movement. We are focusing on two key shifts to enhance value delivery to 125 million users globally: catering to women and harnessing artificial intelligence to introduce new community and partner-driven experiences on the platform.”
One of the AI-driven features introduced is Leaderboard Integrity, which uses machine learning to detect and flag any suspicious or impossible activities on the platform’s leaderboards, making it easier to identify cheaters.
Another upcoming feature, although not AI-driven, is the long-awaited dark mode designed to reduce eye strain and improve accessibility for users. This feature is set for release later this summer in a phased rollout.
AI Enhancements for Athlete Intelligence
Strava also outlined plans to utilize AI and machine learning enhancements to enhance the athlete experience through Athlete Intelligence, a beta AI-powered feature that summarizes each subscriber’s training data in an easily digestible format. This feature provides insights on accomplishments, fitness goals, and consolidates multiple sports activities in one place.
Early insights from Athlete Intelligence include progress comparisons, updates on fitness goals, and analysis of the impact of your training pace on your fitness level. These insights are delivered through in-app messages in the ‘You’ tab.
The specific launch dates for these features are not confirmed but are expected to roll out in the coming months.
