Virginie Viard is to depart Chanel as creative director. We repeat: Virginie Viard is to depart Chanel as creative director. The French designer (who recently turned 62) has been the creative force behind Chanel since 2019, following the passing of the late Karl Lagerfeld. Viard began her career at Chanel as an intern for haute couture embroidery in 1985. Viard’s most recent collection for Cruise 2025 was staged in the port city of Marsielle in Southern France and is set to present her Fall 2024 Haute Couture collection as planned, during the upcoming Haute Couture Paris Fashion Week festivities on June 25. A replacement is set to be announced in due course.
